16 March 2021
It’s Johannesburg Zoo’s 117th birthday and we’d like to celebrate with you.  If your birthday falls in the month of March, we’re offering you free access to the zoo throughout this month only.

With the Covid restrictions regulated to Level 1, what better way to spend your birthday outdoors with family and friends.  The zoo offers ample space for picnics and safe walking distancing and boasts over 320 animal species, with a total of approximately 2000 animals.

The Joburg Zoo’s humble beginnings in 1904, was a mere 200 acres stretch of land and an animal collection of no more than 10 species. This year, 117 years later and 55 hectares in size, the zoo is one of the leaders in animal conservation and preservation of critically endangered species such as the Pickersgill Reed Frog and others.

Join us during March as we celebrate our birthday and remember to bring your proof of identification for free access.

The Joburg Zoo complies with all Covid regulations and it is compulsory for all visitors to wear their masks, practice safe distancing and sanitizing at all times.
