JCPZ CONFIRMS WELL-BEING OF LAMMIE, RAMADIBA, AND MOPANE IN LIGHT OF PENDING COURT APPLICATION.
Following the renewed media scourge regarding the Zoo’s three elephants, the Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) wish to briefly explain that the matter is subjudice (currently before the Court). In respecting the constitutional values and principles of South Africa’s democracy, the Zoo has purposely limited its public comments and respects the authority of our country’s Courts.
In the meantime, the Zoo is once again happy to report and confirm that Lammie, Ramadiba, and Mopane are well taken care of by the Zoo, the dedicated elephant team, and its staff, all of whom remain committed to caring for and providing for the elephants and to act in their best interests. Lammie, Ramadiba, and Mopane have recently undergone comprehensive medical assessments by expert veterinarians from the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, and all of them have received a clean bill of health.
The Zoo notes the media updates regarding the Pretoria Zoo’s elephant, Charley. It is a reality that there are instances where attempted rewilding of elephants does not culminate in a successful outcome.
It is no small measure that the JCPZ goes above and beyond to comply with all applicable laws and regulations regarding Lammie, Ramadiba, and Mopane, and our commitment to continue doing so remains steadfast.
Lammie, Ramadiba, and Mopane are well-loved by the Zoo’s visitors and are exceedingly endeared by the public at large, both local and abroad. We also wish to thank the public for their continued support of our campaigns for Lammie, Ramadiba, and Mopane, including the overwhelming support for their natural browse.
JCPZ has and will continue to pursue and act in the best interests of Lammie, Ramadiba, and Mopane.
Ends.
