For Immediate Release
Senior Citizens enjoy free access to the Joburg Zoo this October.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) offers its senior citizens the exciting opportunity to visit the Johannesburg Zoo at no cost throughout October. Senior citizens must present their identity documents at the entrance.
The offer honours older residents and recognises their contributions to families and communities while giving them opportunities to reconnect with nature, relax, and spend time together.
Bring the grandchildren on 22 October
On Thursday, 22 October, the Zoo’s R22 admission special will make it affordable for grandchildren and accompanying family members to join their grandparents. Senior citizens will continue to enter free under the October offer. Pack a picnic, take a leisurely walk, and enjoy discovering animals across generations.
Celebrate with #67Blankets on 27 October
Senior citizens are invited to a special celebration with #67Blankets on Tuesday, 27 October, from 09:00. The event will take place in a relaxed setting under a dense tree canopy, with unplugged music; a #67Blankets community activation; grocery hamper giveaways; and information stands from City departments and entities, including assistance from the Revenue Department.
As part of the #67Blankets for Madiba initiative, led by Carolynn Steyn, passionate knitters will come together at the event to crochet and knit blankets and scarves for vulnerable and indigent residents attending the event.
The internal Zoo shuttle will enable senior citizens to hop off to view their favourite animals and hop back on to explore at a comfortable pace.
Guests are encouraged to bring their identity documents, a picnic and a blanket or comfortable folding chair. Organised groups should coordinate their visits with the Zoo in advance.
Families, caregivers and community organisations are urged to help older residents participate, particularly those who may otherwise spend the month alone.
“Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo is committed to ensuring that every resident has the opportunity, at least once in their lifetime, to experience the wonder of seeing a lion or an elephant in a safe, protected setting. This Senior Citizens Month, we invite our older residents to enjoy the Zoo at their own pace, reconnect with nature and create treasured memories with their grandchildren,” says JCPZ Managing Director Thanduxolo Mendrew.
