Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) has joined the global community in honoring our Senior Citizens this October. We’re offering our Older Persons free access to the Joburg Zoo throughout the month of October 2022.

The International Day of Older Persons is observed throughout the month of October across the world. The month has been set aside by the United Nations (UN) under this year’s theme, “Digital Equity for All Ages” for the inclusiveness, accessibility, and knowledge in a time of digitalization. The theme aims to encourage the younger generation to assist our Seniors to navigate their way around digitization with patience, tolerance, and kindness. In many instances, older persons live alone and are lonely, through digital stimulation, they could find entertainment for themselves.

Families across Mzanzi are encouraged to bring their Senior Citizens for a great outdoor experience, peace of mind, and an array of animals at the zoo. Visitors may hire the golf carts available inside the zoo.

For centuries, our older persons remain the pillar of many households and our societies as a whole. Each of us treasures fond memories taught by our grandmothers and grandpas.

Let’s make this month special for our elders, with sufficient space for picnics and safe social distancing, the zoo is ideal for families in celebration of our heroes.

The general public including children will pay the normal entrance fees of R115 per adult and R68 per child. Free access to the Joburg Zoo will apply to the seniors only until 31 October 2022. This offer does not include planned events at the Joburg Zoo, i.e Zoo Trot, etc. and is only valid for entrance to the zoo on normal days.

If the weather permits, pack a picnic basket, a sunhat, and sunscreen, roll out your blankets and come along to enjoy the Big5.
