Thokoza Park, incorporating Moroka Dam, has reclaimed its status as a prime attraction in Rockville in Soweto. The well-used park covers 4,5 hectares.
It proudly shows off Soweto's first fountain, set in well-manicured lawns, with paved footpaths and pretty, rock-strewn streams which gently meander to Moroka Dam. The dam was named after Dr James Moroka, a former president of the ANC who spearheaded the move towards militancy in the early 1950s.

A picturesque spot, the park has facilities for family picnics or braais. It hosts many events, including art exhibitions and lively jazz concerts. There is a children's playground, and lots of ducks to feed.

The park is just a block away from Regina Mundi Church, famous as the site of political "sermons" at the height of apartheid. Include this landmark in your walk, and savour the bird life and leafy trees along the way.
