If you are looking for a park, which offers something for just about everyone, Wemmer Pan is well worth a visit.

The highlighted musical fountain fills evenings with a touch of magic, boat cruises are a great way to spend weekends, and an adventure park is ideal for children.

Rowing competitions and flower shows are held in the park during summer. This is a lovely spot for a picnic or a braai, although you're advised to bring along a portable braai stand. There is also a kiosk and restaurant.

Pioneers' Park was formally opened on 26 April 1924 by the Governor General, the Earl of Athlone, on land bought by the council. Cedar and poplar trees were planted in commemoration of the opening of the park. The park is named in memory of the founders of Johannesburg and the great industry of which it is the centre.

Getting there: Off M2 south (or N17) to Wemmer Pan Road down to Turf Road and into Wemmer Pan, which lies between Santarama Miniland and Pioneer Park.
