Operating Times & General Information

The Zoo is open 364 days of the year!
Open Monday to Sunday, public holidays including Christmas and New Years.
Business Hours are 08:30 am to 5:30pm, last entry 4:00pm
On special occasions, opening and closing times of the Zoo will vary from the above. 

Complimentary tickets cannot be used during special events. 

No domestic animals are allowed in the Zoo.

• Alcohol and balloons are not allowed
• You can bring your own food
• Please do not feed the animals

The Johannesburg Zoo is located at the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Upper Park Drive in Parkview, Johannesburg. The main public entrance is on Upper Park Drive. For a deltailed map, click here

Food Services

The zoo's restaurant provide affordable scrumptious meals to suit any occasion and palette, from mouth watering sandwich, pizza to salads. There are also several kiosks, ice cream and other vendors situated in various sites around the zoo.

Self Catering is welcome and visitors can make use of a number of open picnic sites available. Please note no cooking using braais onsite are allowed. Please respect the zoos open spaces and clean up your litter.

Golf Carts Now Available

Rent a golf cart to better explore the Joburg Zoo. This addition will allow easier navigation of the 54 hectare facility that offers an array of activities.

Prices start from: 

2 seater – R150 an hour

4 seater – R200 an hour

6 seater – R250 an hour

8 seater – R300 an hour
 

• A valid driver’s license is required
• No pre-booking is required
• Golf carts are allocated on a first come first-serve basis

The This is Africa curio shop is available at the Upper Park entrance for you to purchase gifts & toys when visiting the Zoo.
